My Background

I've have been fascinated by the night sky since I was a kid. I built my first telescope when I was twenty-four. I now have a few of them, much better ones. I could look through them for hours but that's hard on the neck, so I hooked a camera up to them and take pictures to stare at.

Deep sky secrets

The night sky doesn't readily give up it's secrets.  Anyone can point a camera up at night and snap a photo, but they'd be lucky to get anything other than dots in the sky.  I yearn to explore deeper, farther, beyond the apparent. I know there is so much more up there and I want to capture it.

Sharing Knowledge

Through trial and error (and good ol' blood, sweat and gears) I've managed to amass a good deal of knowledge on how to bring out the wonder and beauty of the stars.  I would love to share what I know with you so you, too, can enhance your images. Check out my workshops and tutorials to learn how to get the most out of your equipment.

Video

This video is a combination of astrophotography and good ol' sure shot videography. The audio reveals the excitement of the event. It's as close as you can get to actually being there.

Process raw data, from pre-processing through to completion, with step by step guidance using data provided from various imagers. The data will include: DSLR, monochrome and narrow band images with dark, flat, bias and light frames included. You will be walked through batch pre-processing, plus linear and non-linear processing of a variety of images which you will be doing on your own laptop! A section of “free time” will be added for you to work on your own image(s) and to address any issues you might have with your processing steps.

Goals and objectives: giving you practical experience on a large array of image processing steps using PixInsight. While not for the green novice, anyone familiar with the basic concepts and or layout of the PI interface will be able to follow along well enough to create beautiful images from the data provided, giving them practice and confidence to strike out on their own.
